Every year during the holiday season, our Margaret Hendry OSHC Team chooses to fundraise for an important cause. This year, they have decided to support Woden Community Service (WCS) and its efforts for the community.
WCSโs emergency food relief service called #TheLittlePantry is a place where all people are welcome to go in times of need. At Magaret Hendry OSHC, educators opened up a discussion and found out what the children knew about vulnerable or disadvantaged people in the community. Many answered that the people who would need or use this service would be homeless people. The educator who was leading the discussion explained that this is not the case and that people who are in need and vulnerable could be absolutely anyone, as it all depends on circumstances. Most children were actually surprised that it is not just homeless people who are disadvantaged or vulnerable.
Children empathised and took initiative and donated from their own lunch boxes. The children now have a really comprehensive understanding of what being vulnerable means and know that the food will be donated in parcels over the Christmas period to those who are in need.
Some wonderful donations included cleaning products and a variety of foods to ensure nutrition can be met over the busy holiday period. There was plenty of staple food and thoughtful holiday food donated, which will make a world of difference.
A massive thanks to everyone who has contributed so far to make a difference to those who need support and love at this hard time of the year.
