Quality Before and After School Care in Canberra

Woden Community Service (WCS) provides Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) programs across Canberra, offering before-school care, after-school care, and school holiday care. Our services provide children with a safe, nurturing and engaging environment that supports their learning and wellbeing outside of school hours.

Our Before School Care programs typically run from 7:30 am until school starts, providing children with a positive start to the day through a nutritious breakfast and a mix of indoor and outdoor activities. Educators support class transitions, particularly for Preschool and Kindergarten students.

Our After School Care programs run from the end of school until 6:00 pm and offer afternoon tea and a variety of recreational and leisure activities, including sports, games, gardening, cooking, arts, and drama. Programs focus on social skills, resilience, and sustainability, while allowing children to unwind in a relaxed environment.

Our School Holiday Programs (at selected schools) provide a mix of excursions, incursions and on-site activities that keep children active, social and engaged during the break.

Our Services in North Canberra

Evatt School

At Evatt, WCS offers before- and after-school care for children from Preschool to Year 6. The service provides a warm, community feel with recreation-based activities that encourage fun, play and creativity. Our educators escort Preschool and Kindergarten children to and from class to ensure smooth transitions.

Before School Care: 7:30 am – 9:00 am
After School Care: 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Margaret Hendry School (Taylor)

WCS operates before and after school care at Margaret Hendry School for Preschool to Year 6. Programs are held in the school hall and include a healthy breakfast or afternoon tea alongside a range of indoor and outdoor activities. Educators escort preschool and Kindergarten children to and from class.

Evelyn Scott School

Evelyn Scott OSHC provides an inclusive, play-based program where children can socialise, learn and unwind. Care is available for Preschool to Year 6, with younger children escorted between classrooms and the OSHC space. Activities include art, cooking, games and outdoor play.

Our Services in South Canberra

Red Hill Primary School

At Red Hill, WCS offers before- and after-school care for Preschool to Year 6 students, with age-appropriate groupings (Minis, Juniors, and Seniors). Children enjoy nutritious meals, structured activities and plenty of choice for play. Preschool and Kindergarten children are collected and escorted by educators each day.

Griffith Bannister Gardens Preschool

Griffith OSHC provides a wrap-around service for preschool children, offering care both before and after the preschool day. The program is play-based and designed to meet the developmental needs of younger children in a familiar, nurturing environment.

Morning Session: 7:30 am – 9:00 am
Afternoon Session: 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm

Wanniassa School

WCS offers before and after school care at Wanniassa for Preschool to Year 6. Children start the day with a healthy breakfast and activities in the school hall, and afternoons include games, arts, cooking and outdoor play. Preschool children are escorted between classes and care by educators.

Duffy Primary School

Duffy OSHC caters for Preschool to Year 6 with separate programs for Juniors and Seniors. The service provides a relaxed, home-like environment with opportunities for play, art, gardening, cooking and more. Preschool and Kindergarten children are escorted by educators each day.

Torrens Primary School

At Torrens, WCS offers before- and after-school care for Kindergarten to Year 6. Programs are held in the school halls and grouped by age, creating safe and engaging spaces for children to play, socialise and learn together.

Garran Primary School

Garran OSHC provides care for Preschoolers to Year 6, with separate Junior and Senior programs tailored to suit different age groups. Children enjoy creative and recreational activities with a focus on belonging and positive relationships. Educators escort preschool and Kindergarten children.
